We’ve been taking a trip around the various cities in Northwest Arkansas on the Lewis Superstore blog lately, and this week, we’re highlighting a few local NWA areas that are just a short, ‘mini’ road trip from Fayetteville, where the Lewis Ford used car lot is located. Since Lewis Automotive Group has been a part of the NWA community for over 75 years, it’s only natural to have the urge to jump into your newest car, like the new 2021 Ford Expedition and go for a trip to see the sights in this corner of the Natural State. And, since we’re lucky to be one of the top car dealerships in Arkansas, we love a chance to explore everything this area has to offer! So, after you’ve checked out our selection of RAM trucks for sale in Arkansas, you can get on the road where you belong! Here’s just a few picks for this week:
Battlefield State Park - Covering over 900 acres, this park commemorates the Battle of Prairie Grove. This battle, waged on Dec. 7, 1862 between the Confederate and Union forces during the Civil War, was the last major Civil War battle waged in Northwest Arkansas. History buffs will love the free admission to the Hindman Hall Museum on the grounds, and Arkansas’ largest Civil War reenactment also takes place here every other year.
Antique Shops - You’ll find a whole crop of fun shopping opportunities in downtown Prairie Grove, for a chance to bring home a truckload of unique vintage and antique decorations and housewares from local stores like Daisies and Olives.
Food - Mel’s Diner - For a family-owned diner with delicious and fresh offerings, this restaurant in Downtown Prairie Grove has been serving up amazing food since 2012. Stop in for a fresh, never frozen, Cheeseburger, some Chicken Fried Steak, or even a Spanish Omelet stuffed full of sausage, tomato, and cheese.
Crescent Hotel - Perched high above the Victorian Village of Eureka Springs, Arkansas is the 1886 Crescent Hotel & Spa, a palatial structure and landmark hotel known widely in the Ozark Mountains as the "symbol of hospitality" for the State of Arkansas. Not only is this historic hotel full of beauty and amenities like the New Moon Spa & Salon, you can also book and enjoy a Ghost tour in this spot dubbed “America’s Most Haunted Hotel” if you enjoy an extra thrill to go along with your stay.
Turpentine Creek - Just on the outskirts of Eureka Springs is a Wildlife Refuge whose goal is to provide lifetime care for abandoned, abused, and neglected big cats, with an emphasis on tigers, lions, leopards, and cougars. They offer daily guided tours and an open area to stroll and visit some of the bear and big cat enclosures, and support their cause while taking in the company of some adorable and impressive animals.
Food - Local Flavor Cafe - This top tier local restaurant in Downtown Eureka Springs has been chef owned and operated in the city since 1991. You can take in the ambiance of the local art and vintage lamps, and try some of the dishes that make this Eureka’s most recommended restaurant. Some of the amazing options you’ll find are Baked Brie in a honey lemon sauce, a Black Bean pepper jack burger, or Mahi Mahi tacos topped with fresh mango salsa.
Natural Falls State Park - Located near the Oklahoma/Arkansas border in the scenic Ozark Highlands region of northeast Oklahoma, Natural Falls State Park features a stunning 77-foot waterfall cascading through rock formations and creating a hidden, serene atmosphere at the bottom of a narrow V-shaped valley. A railed observation platform allows hikers to overlook the falls and another observation deck with seating is located at the foot of the falls offering two vantage points to enjoy one of the most scenic wonders in the state. The beautiful scenery looks familiar to many visitors because scenes from the 1974 movie, "Where the Red Fern Grows" were filmed in the park.
John Brown University - this Christian University is in the center of Siloam Springs, and brings students from all over the country, and the world, to their impressive campus that’s been established since 1919. The campus is a beautiful place, with a historic chapel and other sights on the grounds.
Food - Pour Jons - Where you find a college campus, you’ll probably also find a great coffee shop. This little specialty coffee shop is located in Downtown Siloam Springs, and roasts its beans at the location to ensure one of the freshest cups of coffee you’ll find in the city. They are a great place to experience, and sit for a while to unwind from all the sightseeing you’ve been doing on this trip.
